How it works
Four steps, no fee, and a written comparison you keep — whether you enroll with us or not.
Overview
Working with an independent health insurance broker should feel like working with an accountant, not a call center. You describe your situation, someone who knows the market does the analysis, and you get a recommendation with reasoning attached.
There is no cost. Premiums are filed with each state's department of insurance, so a plan costs the same whether you buy it directly or through a licensed advisor. Compensation comes from the carrier after you enroll.
The process below is the same for individuals, self-employed clients, and small employers — the questions change, not the method.
The four steps
Discovery
Fifteen to thirty minutes. Who needs coverage, which doctors matter, what prescriptions you take, expected income, and what your budget realistically allows.
Comparison
We build a written side-by-side of two to four plans — premium, deductible, copays, out-of-pocket maximum — after verifying your providers and drugs against each one.
Enrollment
You choose. We submit the application, handle carrier follow-up, and confirm the effective date in writing so nothing is left to assumption.
Ongoing support
ID card problems, claim denials, adding a newborn, a mid-year move, or next year's renewal all come back to the same advisor.
What you get that a website cannot give you
Network verification
Your actual physicians checked against each plan's network before you see the recommendation.
Formulary verification
Your prescriptions checked drug by drug — see prescription coverage.
Both markets quoted
On-exchange and off-exchange together, so you know the whole picture rather than half of it.
Worst-case math
What a bad year costs under each option, not just the monthly premium.
Honest 'stay put' advice
If your current plan is already the right one, that is what we tell you.
A person at renewal
The same advisor next year, with your file already open.
What to have ready
- Names and dates of birth for everyone needing coverage
- ZIP code and county
- Estimated household income for the coverage year
- Current prescriptions with dosages
- Doctors and specialists you want to keep
- Your current plan's premium, deductible, and out-of-pocket maximum
- Any planned procedures or a pregnancy in the coming year
- For employers: an employee census with dates of birth and ZIP codes
What this is and is not
| What we do | What we do not do | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free consultation and enrollment help | Charge broker or consulting fees |
| Scope | Quote multiple carriers across both markets | Represent a single carrier's shelf |
| Pressure | Give a recommendation with reasoning | Push a plan you do not understand |
| Products | Major medical, supplemental, dental, vision, life | Sell limited-benefit plans as major medical |
| Service | Stay on for claims and renewals | Disappear after the application |
How advisors are paid, in plain terms
Insurance carriers pay licensed agents a commission when a policy is issued. Rates are filed with and approved by state regulators, which is why the same plan cannot legally cost you more because an advisor helped.
That structure has one obvious implication worth naming: an advisor is paid when you enroll. The protection against that conflict is independence and transparency — being appointed with many carriers rather than one, and telling you plainly when the right answer is to keep the plan you already have.
We are licensed in 31 states — see the licensed states map. If you are outside them, say so anyway and we will point you toward a trustworthy advisor who is appointed where you live.
